On February 26, 2024, the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo organized an exhibition dedicated to the coral reefs of Hawaii. Executive Director Ka‘iu Kimura emphasized the importance of preserving coral reefs, which sustain healthy ocean ecosystems, in her press release.
The latest exhibit showcased “He Honua Ola: A Vibrant Coral Reef” – a collaborative project between ‘Imiloa and software manufacturer KIDSJumpTECH. “He Honua Ola” features a 20-foot screen displaying a virtual ecosystem based on reefs near the Kona coast. Visitors could interact with the projection using Alive Sketch technology. Participants created drawings of fish, scanned them, and witnessed their drawings come to life on the screen, becoming part of the dynamic exhibition.
